Cooking Safety in Your Twin Lake Home
1/25/2022 (Permalink)
The American Burn Association reports 47% of all home fires are caused by cooking; this home in Twin Lake is sadly now part of that statistic. An empty sheet pan was set on top of the stove, an ignitor was accidentally bumped, starting a fire on the plastic bowl that was set on the unknown heated sheet pan. Accidents happen, but the following are a few tips to not become a part of the statistic.
- Always wipe clean the stove, oven, and exhaust fan to prevent grease buildup.
- Turn pot and pan handles toward the back of the stove.
- When frying, use a pan lid or splash guard to prevent grease splatter.
- If simmering, baking, roasting, or boiling food, check it regularly. Remain in the home while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you to check on your cooking.
- Check to make sure all burners and other appliances are turned off after cooking.
