Toilet Overflow Tips For Your Muskegon Home

Toilet with lid lifted SERVPRO of Muskegon is Here to Help after a toilet overflow.

It is likely that your Muskegon home will experience a toilet overflow at some point in your life.  The following are some tips to stop an overflow the proper way:

  1. Remove the lid from the toilet tank, reach inside the tank and lift up the bottom of the fill valve or float to stop the water from refilling.  Rig the float to stay up to prevent it from refilling the toilet.
  2. Turn off the water supply to the toilet.  It is usually a valve located at the base of the toilet near the floor.  If you cannot locate the valve or are unable to turn it off, proceed to step three.
  3. Turn off the home's main water supply.

If your toilet is overflowing, do not attempt to flush the toilet.  If you believe that you have a plumbing issue, do not attempt to perform the work yourself; hire a licensed plumber to check your pipes.
